Debit Card FAQ
Upper Peninsula State Bank offers our customers
Contactless Chip Debit Cards.
Contactless chip debit cards are safe, easy and secure - perfect for places like fast food restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, vending machines, taxis and more! Contactless chip debits cards also have a sanitary benefit, as they can help minimize contact at the register!
How secure is it...
Each transaction creates a one-time code that can be validated before approving the transaction - providing an additional layer of security. That unique one-time code also prevents a thief from making any additional purchases with stolen card data. Also, when using your card contactlessly, you can’t pay accidentally, as your card must be within 1-2 inches of the terminal for the sale to take place.
How to use a Contactless Card...
If the places you shop have the contactless symbol at the registers, simply hold your card near the terminal (or tap it) until the light turns green. You should hear a "beep" when your card is accepted, which will indicate a successful payment.
How to use Chip Cards...
If the places you shop have chip-enabled registers, simply insert your chip card and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the transaction. If they don't have chip-enabled registers, swipe and sign your name or enter your PIN the same as always.
- Insert the chip end of the card into the chip-enabled terminal.
- Keep the card in the terminal and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the transaction.
- Remember to remove your card when the transaction is completed.
Please note: Some merchants may have "Contactless-Ready" and/or "Chip-Ready" terminals that are not enabled. Having a contactless chip card AND using an ENABLED terminal makes your transaction more secure; just having a contactless chip card alone does not.
