About Us
Our History
Upper Peninsula State Bank was formed in 1902 for the purpose of providing banking services to the citizens of Delta and surrounding counties. From humble beginnings, our founders and their successors built one of the finest financial institutions in the Upper Peninsula. We have always played an important role in the growth and development of the communities we serve. For over 120 years we have made loans to start or expand local businesses. We have provided mortgages to thousands of people to build and buy homes. Most importantly, we have afforded our customers a safe and secure place to save and plan for the future. In today's world, our mission remains absolutely the same. We are committed to helping you manage your finances by meeting current needs, while keeping a watchful eye toward the future.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Upper Peninsula State Bank is to be dedicated to delivering the best in the financial services industry for the financial well being of our customers, shareholders, employees and our communities.
OUR VALUES
Our values are many and provide the foundation upon which our mission will be accomplished.
-
Honesty and Integrity
In all dealings, Upper Peninsula State Bank's reputation for honesty and integrity will be our first and foremost consideration.
It is measured as the sum total of the personal and business reputations of our employees, officers and directors. A culture of ethical behavior protecting the confidence and privacy of our customers is an unquestionable value of this organization.
-
Customers' Interests
We value and place our customers' interests first.
We strive to deliver the highest degree of personalized service and attention in every business relationship. Our customers have become our best referral source by telling their families, friends and neighbors about the quality and value they receive at Upper Peninsula State Bank.
-
Building Economically Healthy Communities
We have an enduring reputation and ongoing interest in building economically healthy communities.
After all, we live, work and play here - we know the value living in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula brings to us. As a matter of business, we provide financial services and build the flow of commerce, we put people in homes, cottages and camps, we put them in vehicles, whether for work necessity or personal recreation, and above all, we provide a safe and secure place to plan for their retirement. But we do more. We keep a constant watchful eye on the horizon with a goal of bringing our customers new and innovative products and services. We support local charities, not just financially, but with physical and mental commitment.
-
Our Heritage
We value our heritage.
We realize that if it were not for our predecessors - both employees and customers, this institution would not exist today. We recognize that we are merely today's custodians of what was built by great people in the past and will someday be managed by a new team in whom we will place our trust. We place a high value on growing, protecting, guiding and nurturing this fine organization.
-
A True Community Bank
We value the fact that we are a true community bank.
With a board of directors that is comprised of local community minded individuals who possess both a tremendous sense of community and a business mind that has withstood the test of time. Our decision makers are our officers whose spoken words and actions are based upon what is seen and heard here locally in this community - not some far away headquarters that has no eyes, ears or sense of feel in our community. Yes, we value our local knowledge and the empowerment to use it through our decision making capabilities for the benefit of the communities we serve. Our ownership is distributed among many in our community, rather than to a few family members. This means that the benefits of ownership transcend to many in our community, not just a few. For obvious reasons, we place a high value on this and believe those in our community would also.
-
Our Employees
We value our employees.
We recognize that without them, we would cease to exist. We believe in team spirit and maintaining high employee morale. Customers are well served by employees who are well served.
